PRESHIFT CHECKLIST
MUST BE REVIEWED PRIOR TO DEPARTURE
MUST BE REVIEWED PRIOR TO DEPARTURE
As a sidewalk operator, it is important to ensure you have all required tools and equipment before beginning your zone assignment. Use the following checklist while in your tractor prior to leaving the yard:
Pen & Highlighter
Ensure you have a working blue pen and highlighter. Zone maps must be completed in blue pen and highlighted to correspond with the areas completed (map and checkboxes).
CB Radio
Confirm your CB radio is functioning properly. If it is not working, you must obtain a portable hand-held CB radio from the City Office in order to properly weigh out and weigh in.
Access Card & Punch-In
Ensure you have your access card and have punched in for your shift. If you do not have an access card, stop at the City Office and inform a City Supervisor so your time can be manually recorded.
Salt Hopper Setting
Check your salt hopper setting before departure. The hopper must be set to “notch 2” from the right to ensure an even and consistent salt application.
Weigh-Out Confirmation
Ensure you are weighed out at the scale before leaving the yard. A functioning CB radio is required for this process. Refer to Step 2 if your radio is not operational.
Phone & Charging Equipment
Confirm you have a charging cord and a working accessory power port for your smartphone. Maintaining communication with peers and shift supervisors is essential at all times while on duty.
Hydration & Nutrition
Bring sufficient drinks and snacks. Staying hydrated and fueled throughout your shift is important for safety and performance.
Salt Monitor Contact
Ensure you have the contact information for your Salt Monitor and confirm you have received a text message from them before leaving the yard. If not, contact your Shift Supervisor immediately.
