Purpose
To reduce premature cutting-edge wear, protect sidewalk surfaces, and promote consistent plowing performance.
Blade Operating Modes
Use for:
Normal snow clearing
Sidewalks, pathways, multi-pass routes
Finish passes
Why:
Blade follows surface contours
Down-pressure limited to blade weight
Produces even, predictable wear
Reduces chatter, edge chipping, and concrete damage
Float should be ON for the majority of operating hours
FLOAT OFF (Limited / Controlled Use)
Use only for:
Hard-pack or ice removal
First scrape after freeze–thaw
Pull-back near curbs, doors, or edges
Guidelines:
Short duration only
Low ground speed
Return to FLOAT immediately after task
Continuous use without float accelerates wear and increases damage risk.
Key Wear Accelerators
Bare concrete or asphalt
Excessive speed
Aggressive attack angle
Operator “riding” the blade
Improper shoe height
Continuous down-pressure
Best Practices
Default to FLOAT
Use non-float intentionally, not habitually
Monitor cutting edge condition regularly
Report uneven wear early
